- Abstract:
- Like many other arcades and buildings of the 19th century, the original layout of the Passage des Panoramas of 1799 consisted of two rotundas, each 7 meters tall. The interior of these structures featured picturesque panoramic scenes from which the arcade derived its name. While both rotundas were destroyed in 1831, the passage kept its name in an attempt to preserve the artistic splendor of its original design. The Passage des Panoramas was a major attraction in 1817 for being one of the first arcades to successfully use gas lighting. It is located in the second arrondissement across from the Passage Jouffroy. This anonymous gouache was created in 1810.
