Frouche Van Winkle Ryerson

ISABEL CAMPBELL-GROSS

I chose this object because I thought it was unique and I thought it was funny. Most of the paintings were of men (boring men) and I thought this painting wasn't boring, I thought it was sort of unusual to see a fat old lady to be painted. This tells me that the woman was probably rich and sad. I think it was used to be put up in the woman's house and it was a sign that you are wealthy when you have a portrait painted of you. This lady was living in the time period that my class was studying and it shows how she felt. (I think) it shows how people were painted and what materials they had back then.
