The Shelving Unit is managed by Michelle Venditelli and is responsible for the general upkeep or stack maintenance of the library's two main buildings: the Rockefeller Library and the Sciences Library. Shelving work includes, among other duties: shelving, shifting, sorting, searching, shelf reading, pick-ups and processing material for the Library Collections Annex.
In the Rockefeller Library, each floor has a Shelving Center where new and recently returned books are staged for shelving. There, the staff is available to answer questions on how to find a book while they sort and organize the thousands of returned and new books the Library processes. At Sciences Library, the main Shelving Center is on Level 5. Should the staff be away, the public is always welcome to browse the shelving centers. While working in the stacks, shelving staff often assist patrons with questions they may have.
The unit is made up of six regular staff, and about ten student assistants.
