Jargon Alert
What does it all mean? You'll likely hear some of the following as you work through your research.
| Article | Document published in a journal, magazine, or newspaper. |
| Course guide | Recommended resources for a specific course. |
| Database |
Searchable information with content on a subject or cluster of subjects. |
| eResources | Databases, journals, books, indexes, and collections available electronically. |
| Index | Listing of articles available both electornically and in print by subject and/or author. |
| Josiah | Database of items available through the Library. |
| Journal | Publication of scholarly information and research on a specific field of study issued at regular intervals (monthly, quarterly). Often peer-reviewed. |
| Periodical | Magazines, journals, newsletters and similar publication types. |
| Reference services |
Help using and finding library materials for research. |
| Special collections |
Rare or fragile items and acquired collections with value as a set. |
| Subject | Categories assigned to all items in a database. Most databases, including Josiah, allow you to search by subject. |
| Subject guide | Resources of special interest on a particular topic. |
| Subject specialist | Librarian responsible for a subject, including, books and databases available for help with research and finding resources. |
