While many databases are available for (walk-in) visitor use, our licenses limit remote access to affiliated users, defined as "currently enrolled Brown students, staff, and faculty". We suggest that non-affiliated users visit their local public libraries - many states now provide publicly available state-wide online databases to taxpayers. In Rhode Island, it is the AskRI service.
Alumni Borrowing Cards provide book borrowing privileges free of charge; however, access is denied to many databases and to Interlibrary Loan. Some free fulltext online books may be found through services such as the Internet Archive, Project Gutenberg and/or Google Books.
This page lists some free search tools but these generally do not provide fulltext journal materials; these materials must be obtained through your public library or a commercial information broker such as http://www.infotrieve.com/ or http://www.researchsolutions.com/.
