Naming of an existing seminar room in the John Hay
A gift to the Library of this amount would name the room on the second floor that currently holds some of the Lownes collection and a segment of the RI Medical Society Library. The Lownes collection forms the backbone of Brown’s significant collection in the History of Science which includes books such as Newton’s Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica (London: 1687) and Audobon’s Birds of America (London: 1827). Larger classes often use the room in order to interact with Special Collections materials. The room also is used to hold seminar discussions or public lectures.
