A gift of one million would create a media center and multimedia lab. The center and lab would serve both faculty and students as they explore the possibilities that multimedia offers to their academic endeavors. Multimedia production demands collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and knowledge construction and as such is aligned with Brown’s curriculum with its focus on interdisciplinary, student-driven learning. While digital media and the digital arts are already an important part of the artistic disciplines on campus, all disciplines, from psychology to literature, from math to theater, would benefit from exploiting the cognitive and learning opportunities offered by high-quality multimedia digital production. Engaging students and faculty with multimedia tools and multimedia issues can nurture this learning experience across disciplines, across departmental boundaries and across campus.
