Capt. Thomas Theodore Tidball:

Born in 1826 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Thomas Tidball enrolled in the 4rd Ohio Infantry in 1845 and was discharged in 1847. In 1861 he became a captain in the 5th California Infantry, and was part of the California Column that marched to Tucson. He commanded Fort Bowie in 1863, and was mustered out of service in 1864. According to the 1864 census, Thomas Theodore Tidball was a thirty-seven year-old army captain from Pennsylvania, stationed at Fort Bowie. He returned to California and served as a county clerk, and died in Monterey in 1913.
