Santa Fe:

Santa Fe was founded on the site of Pueblo Indian villages by the Spanish in 1608. It was made the provincial seat of the Nuevo Mexico province of New Spain in 1610. With the end of the Mexican-American War in 1848, Santa Fe was transferred to United States control, securing the strategically important Santa Fe Trail for American use.
