King Woolsey:

Woolsey was born in Alabama in 1832 but grew up in Louisiana. He moved to the Arizona Territory in 1860 where he gained fame as an Indian fighter. He participated in several famous battles, including the Battle of Bloody Tanks and the Pinole Massacre in 1864, for which he received a commendation from the territorial legislature and the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the state militia. His business interests included mining and merchant goods, and he served in the territorial legislature for five sessions, as well as working as an aide on the staffs of both Governor Goodwin and Governor Safford. He is listed in the 1864 census as a farmer with property valued at $9,000.
