General Gordon Granger:

Born at Joy, New York, in 1822, Gordon Granger graduated from West Point and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1845. After serving in the Mexican War he studied tactics in Europe, and served in the west in Oregon, Washington, Forts Merrill and McIntosh, and finally at Fort Craig in 1859. He rose to the rank of brevet major general while serving in the Civil War, and in 1866 he was assigned as a colonel of the 25th Infantry, and became commander of the District of New Mexico. He died in Santa Fe in 1876.
